NEVER POWER WASH WOOD STRUCTURES !

This 1894 Colonial Revival wood structure in Santa Monica, CA, was power washed and re-painted. In a matter of a few months, all of the paint started to de-laminate, or more correctly explained, the remaining moisture in the wood, was activated by the sunlight and it’s temperature, drawing the moisture to the surface, and pushing the new paint off.

The worse areas are circled in the first few photographs.

Now, nothing will stick to the wood, until all the moisture is drawn out of the wood. The only solution is to use a alcohol/epoxy injection system to stabilize the wood substrate.
