This 1928 Late Gothic Revival, Heinsbergen Decorating Company Building, HCL #275, was designed by Curlett & Beelman for the talented muralist Anthony Heinsbergen. Each brick had been salvaged from the original Los Angeles City Hall building and brought to this site to re-use, to re-build. Because the brick and cement grout on the tower roof are different substrates, they expand and contract at different rates. Slowly over 80 years, the water tight seal had opened, allowing rain water to move through the brick roof into the interior plaster ceiling. We were tasked with sealing the entire roof and not leaving any ‘new’ sheen on the aged red brick.
