The Cora B. Henderson House, HCL #649, is located in the Wilton Historical District of Los Angeles. Sidewall shingles have a life span recommended by the manufacturer of 40-50 years, both redwood and cedar shingles, before requiring replacement. The 100 year old redwood sidewall shingles on the house had lived twice as long as recommended by shingle manufacturers. The neighborhood historical group refused to allow the sidewall shingles to be replaced. Painting the shingle with a dark flat sheen paint allowed us to disappear many years of southern exposure temporarily.
