It was very gratifying to bring these modest 1945 wood windows back to ‘better than new’ condition. Three of these windows have priceless Pacific Ocean views. With epoxy injection and lifetime warranty paint, these windows will now last for another 75 years, at least.
Someone tried to paint water base acrylic paint directly over the original oil based alkyd enamel, without the correct alkyd primers for adhesion.
Some of the glazing putty that was removed was actually plumber’s ‘dope’ putty, that is designed to get as hard as cement, it was just that.
A brushed paint finish is so much easier to live with, than the past rough roller stipple finish. With the finished crank windows opening as wind scoops, the house can now be cooled by the prevailing on shore breeze in just minutes.
